Well, it might surprise you, but beans are a cheap crop, readily available in tins or dry for not very much money at all, and yet they are an excellent source of protein and fiber. Due to their content of soluble fiber they are beneficial for people with diabetes, may help lowering cholesterol and reduce risk of heart disease.
